Travelling is the best way to know the world around you. There is simply no substitute for seeing the world with your own eyes and to do that you need to travel as much as your busy schedule allows you to. If you have not ventured out of your comfort zone, plan a road trip with your friends (or alone if you are comfortable doing that) and find out what you have been missing all these years. Before you begin, here are five important tips that you need to keep in mind for the best experience.
Stop Worrying, Have Patience
The key to having a good travel experience is to be patient and stop worrying about things that you cannot control. Take things slow and go with the flow rather than trying to muscle your way around things in a strange place because you will be sorely disappointed and the trip will end up being a bad experience. Never make the mistake of cramming in too many destinations in your first travel plan. In fact, it is advisable to take baby steps and try a nearby destination and find out how things pan out for you. Be prepared to encounter different cuisines and cultures and always have an open mind for new things that you are not used to. Don't leave anything photo last moment and never panic if anything goes out of your plan because there is always a solution.
Do Your Research Well
One way to avoid uncertainties and variables in your travel plan is to do your research well and find out as much information as you can about the destination. First time travelers and getting into herself because they do not put in the effort to initially gather the necessary information about accommodations and tourist hot spots which become crowded quite fast and quite easily. A word of advice, always book your hotel rooms in advance especially if you are arriving with family members. There might be certain exceptions to this rule when you might come across things that are not available online, in that case you might have to speak with the locals. If you need to do that, always ensure that you are asked the same question to try different people so that even if the previous two opinions end up being a tie, the third opinion will give you a clear option.
Pack Light, Don’t Skip on Communication Gear
A common mistake when you first time travelers make is to carry their entire living rooms with them on their road trips! Cut down on unnecessary things that you are not going to use or use very rarely. Leave your laptops and other electronic gadgets behind because that will simply add to the clutter and become a theft-hazard. Having said that you are going to need at least a dual SIM mobile phone with two cards of two different reliable networks so that you never lose connection with people back home and there is always an option of using the GPS on your mobile phone to find directions if you happen to get lost.
Protect Yourself and Your Belongings
Never cut corners on your safety. Invest in a good quality branded motorcycle helmet and other riding safety accessories such as jackets, goggles and boots so that you don't encounter any problem because of a compromised riding safety gear. If you are planning to go on a long road trip, make sure that you have insured your vehicle and had its service before the tour. It is generally considered a good idea to carry as less cash as possible and depend on ATMs to withdraw money if necessary. However, do not be on the highways without cash because you never know when you might need a mechanic’s assistance. Always keep the money separated in different places so that even if you unfortunately lose some money, you will still have enough to get out of trouble.
Blend In, Get Local
A great way to gather new experiences is to blend in with the locals and keep an open mind about experimenting with new things. Instead of eating the same dishes that you eat at home, try to find what the locals prefer. That way you will know no a lot about the local cuisine and culture that you won’t find in any book or blog. The last thing you want to do is to dress up as a traveler and carry a fanny-pack around your waist or a telltale camera hanging by your neck! The smartest way to get an unfiltered experience of your travel destination is to be as inconspicuous as possible. Cameras are fine as long as you don’t broadcast to the entire world that you are there to take photos. Another upside of blending in is that you don’t draw unwanted attention from touts, cab drivers and tour guides.
