Motorcycle Camping: Everything You Need To Know

How do you get away from the stress of daily life?  As two wheelers, we always have the option of packing our bags and heading out to the hills for a week of relaxation without thinking about the rest of the world at all. Motorcycle camping is one of the most freeing experiences ever, and if you have your best buddies with you to keep company then you are going to make some of the best memories ever. Find out everything you need to know about motorcycle camping and leave the nagging world behind you, well at least for a few days!

Bike luggage case

Apart from riding safety gears such as helmets and gloves, the next important thing that you are going to need are bike luggage cases. Bike luggage cases with locks will make your life so much easier and you can leave behind additional gears and change of clothes on your bike itself and only take the essential stuff with you indoors. While making the decision of purchasing a bike luggage case a few things that you must consider are: How many people will you be packing for?  How many days will you be camping?  What's the weather like at the camp location?  Once you have answered these questions, it will be easier for you to choose the right sized motorcycle side luggage box. When it comes to choosing the material options of your luggage case you have hard case luggage bags and soft textile materials as well. As you may have guessed, the hard case luggage bags provide superior protection against accidents and bumps on the roads whereas the soft textile materials are going to be lighter to carry on your motorcycle.

Staying options

Motorcycle camping is less about staying inside the camp, and more about enjoying the ride, but every evening you will have to rest for the night and when it comes to that, you have the option of either being locked up in a hotel room, or sleeping under the starry skies in your own tent! In many places, camp organisers provide tents for an additional charge (which might be a lot more than you expect!), or you can also take your own tent, tie it to the back of a motorcycle and set it up whenever you decide to call it a night! Key decisions that you need to take while purchasing a camping tent are the number of people that are going to stay at camp, as well as the weather conditions that it has to protect you against. If you are going to travel frequently, consider investing in a high quality camping tent with adequate space inside to park your motorcycle during the night.

The most common options of camping tents are expedition tents which are quite large in size and can accommodate up to 5 to 6 people easily.  Then there is the family tent which is enough for two to three people,  and finally there is a backpacker’s tent which has enough space for just one rider and is a great option if you are travelling alone. Do not buy a tent larger than what you need because it will add to your luggage weight as well as you will need a larger space to set it up. The best option for camping solo is the backpacker’s tent which has all the space you need to spend the night comfortably.

Food and clothes

While camping many people do not think deeply when it comes to packing foods for the trip. A large number of motorcycle campers do not carry their own food, instead they depend on roadside eateries and store-bought foods. While that may be a great option if you do not know how to cook, but it can quickly become very expensive especially if you are planning to camp for more than 4 to 5 days. The most affordable option is to cook food yourself. Carry some easy to cook ingredients in your bike luggage bag along with a butane powered stove that will help you boil water as well as cook small and simple meals throughout the day. It is also a good plan to carry additional butane cans so that you do not run out of supply at your camp.

Similarly, you must also back additional clothes depending on the number of days you plan to spend camping. Always make sure to pack light and depend on nearby stores for detergents and cloth cleaning supplies to wash your clothes and hang them to dry during the night.  The smart way to deal with dirty clothes during camping is to put them in a hamper and pack them tightly inside the luggage case and wash them when you are back home again. Having a bike side bag with locks will make this very simple and easy.
