Every occasion demands that you dress right for it. Even when you are going on a motorcycle road trip, there is a proper dress code that you need to maintain, not just for your own safety, but also to ensure that you stay comfortable. If you were looking for the right way to dress for an upcoming road trip, you're at the right place. Let's get started!
Always dress for the weather
Always choose your dress for the weather condition that you are anticipating to experience at the destination, as well as throughout the ride. Since you have limited space in the motorcycle luggage boxes, there's no point carrying anything that you are not going to use during the trip, or at the destination. If the temperature is going to be hot, focus on cotton clothes that are good at soaking the sweat and keeping you comfortable even when the temperature rises beyond tolerable limits. The same way, if you expect the mercury to drop a lot, focus on wearing synthetic clothing that are very good at keeping the cold air at bay.
Prioritize safety over comfort
While it is important to stay comfortable while riding a motorcycle, the primary focus should be on safety. Never make the mistake of wearing baggy jeans, or light T-shirts while riding a motorcycle because that is not safe at all. In the event of an accident, such clothing will not protect your body from bruises or scratches. Always make sure to wear the right motorcycle riding jacket and pant along with a pair of motorcycle riding gloves; and most essential of all–a good quality motorcycle helmet made by one of the best helmet brands in India.
Make yourself clearly visible
Besides keeping you safe and comfortable, riding gears also serve the purpose of making you visible to other motorists on the road. Riders who wear dark clothing while going on a road trip make it difficult for other people to spot them especially when the lighting conditions are not favorable. Always wear brightly colored clothing, preferably with luminescent strips on the riding jacket, or pants so that car drivers and other motorists on the road can see you from a distance and take evasive maneuver to prevent hitting you.
Layer up, don’t bulk up!
There isn't a lot of space to keep your clothing on a motorcycle, which forces you to be more organized about your travel wardrobe. instead of carrying huge jackets and fur coats, focus on thermal wears that are lighter and thinner but very efficient at keeping the core body temperature locked within. If the temperature at the destination starts rising during the midday, you can remove a few layers of thermal wear and still stay warm, something that is not possible to do with bulky fur jackets.
Keep soiled clothes separate
Remember to keep the dirty clothes separate from the clean ones because you do not want everything to get mixed up. A good way to manage that is to have a separate compartment on the motorcycle to carry dirty clothes and shoes separately. We strongly recommend that you check out motorcycle top boxes for bulky items and soiled clothes. These are easy to install on the rear of the motorcycle and have a lot of space compared to motorcycle side boxes.
Separate the wet clothes
Just as you want to keep the dirty clothes separate from the clean ones, it is important to keep the wet cloth away from the dry ones. You can use a couple of polyethene bags to collect wet cloth and hang them to dry as soon as you reach the destination or end the day’s ride.
Don’t show off, dress like the local
When you are visiting a new place, it is not a good idea to attract attention to yourself. Always dress like the local and do not show off with costly ornaments or jewelries. If you have a costly watch, keep it at home and wear something simple for the ride. Instead of wearing flashy clothes, focus on wearing bright clothes which will not only make you clearly visible to other motorists, but also reduce the risk of being targeted by nefarious individuals.
Cover up with a windcheater
Dust and debris flying on the road is a common problem that simply cannot be solved, but definitely circumvented! The smartest way of keeping your clothes clean and away from the road dirt is to cover everything up with a windcheater. These synthetic overalls are great at keeping the dirt and moisture away from your apparels and are very easy to clean after every ride.
